Sports’ Report 16/17 #5 – Tuesday 18th October

Ballard Sports Academy (Years 3-9)

Ballard Sports Academy is an award for excellence in PE for Years 3-9. Every year we re-select our Sports Academy.

Academy members are pupils, selected by PE staff who are:

  • Outstanding in lessons
  • Show leadership in lessons
  • Show respect to others and themselves
  • Try their best and are disciplined throughout school and PE

Badges are collected after each year and they are then nominated by their PE teacher. Their names are also then added to our ‘Wall of Fame’ – see this on the PE stairs.

A new list is published each month, so there are more and more opportunities to work towards being part of the Sports Academy.

Justin Whitbread, Director of Sport,  expands on the reason behind the Sports Academy below:

By gaining all of the criteria above, it develops the child to contribute in lessons, look at themselves and how they approach school and also gives them the chance to grow leadership skills. It is not based on the best, most sportiest pupils but those who contribute and do their best and attempt school and particularly PE with a growth mindset.

Breakfast Clubs

Ballard School Netball Breakfast Club

Having a well earned rest… after Junior Netball Breakfast Club

We have a great offer of breakfast clubs with Football and Netball on offer currently in the mornings and a variety of clubs on offer after school. For a full list, do see our first Sports’ Report blog of the year.

Welcome Back Mikey!

We welcomed Mikey Jones, alumnus, back to school after his gold medal winning performance at the Paralympics in Rio. We have tweeted more photos and on Facebook we have a link to the New Milton Advertiser & Lymington Times which boasted a photograph from Mikey’s visit to Ballard.

ISA U15 Girls’ Football tournament

The girls finished 3rd out of 5 in their group. They went on to the Plate Competition winning 2-0 in the semi finals against Appleford School and then losing 2-0 to LVS Ascot, the host school. Earlier in the day, we beat this same team 1-0.

ISA U15 Girls’ Football tournament – plate runners’ up (and very happy about it as well!)

The girls were very pleased with their runner-up medals and are keen to re-enter this competition next year since we were a team composed of all Year 9’s, one Year 7 and only one Year 10 in this U15’s category.

Mr Whalen.

Football success continues…

Wednesday 12th October saw Ballard U13As host Durslton Court. This was a closely fought match, in front of a large group of spectators and onlookers from our U9s – fresh from a thrilling 3-3 draw with Brockenhust Primary. Our U13s won the match 3-2!

Our U9s watch on as our U13A team took on (and won against!) Durslton Court.

Sports’ Portal – a reminder

Just a note about Ballard Sports Portal – Please note that the times of games are a guide. We are developing a Triangular system that allows pupils in Year 3-8 to play at least two games on a game day. As a habit, every pupil who is selected will be given a fixture sheet for the day if there is more than one game.

Director of Sport
