Ballard School raise record sums for Childrens Cancer Ward

April 17, 2011

Pupils at Ballard School decided to hold a charity week in aid of the Piam Brown Childrens Cancer Ward at Southampton General Hospital and as a result of a week of effort and fun, £5626+ was raised to help the treatment of all types of childhood cancer up to those aged 18.  The ward is at the Wessex Paediatric Oncology Centre at the Hospital.

The project was initiated by the school council which has representatives from every form group from year 3 through to year 11 and the fund raising projects held during the week included various cake sales, karaoke competitions, pupils v staff sports fixtures and on the final day of term, a role reversal day where pupils took over the role of head, deputy heads and various staff members.  The new ‘headmaster’ had to present end of term awards and introduce new parents to the school.

Donations from other events earlier in the term and additional donations from parents also boosted the fund.   Real Headmaster Alastair Reid said “I am so pleased that we have been able to raise such a significant sum to help a facility that is close to many of our hearts.  It has been a great team effort during the week and I would like to thank everyone who has helped”.
