Summer Term 2011

The Summer Term is getting underway after a holiday with wonderful summer weather which we hope will continue!

What’s been happening in the holidays?

Over the break we have had pupils on a ski trip to Utah and others on a special visit to one of our latest nuclear submarines, ‘HMS Repulse’, which was visiting Portsmouth. There have been cricket and tennis academies in School as well as voluntary GCSE clinics run freely by staff. A significant amount of maintenance work has been undertaken – principally a major refurbishment of the senior boys’ and girls’ changing rooms – whilst a lot of planning has gone into the siting of the new Astro Turf pitch, wet-weather ‘pavilions’ and a re-modeling of the Edwardian Terrace at the front of the Main House. Time doesn’t stand still at Ballard even during the holidays!

Dates for the diary!

We come back to School for a staff in-service training day on the 26th April with term re-opening on Wednesday, 27th April. In keeping with most day schools we shall then have a holiday for the Royal Wedding (we are planning a major celebration for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in May 2012) and will also recognize the May Bank Holiday. Our Y11 and Y10 pupils will be hard at work focusing on their GCSEs from the moment term begins but there are also important school exams for the other year groups as well as the Ballard Challenge and the Arts’ Week to look forward to in the final weeks of what will be a busy and relatively short term.
