Pre-Prep Summer Musical “Blooming Gorgeous”

May 20, 2011

Pupils in Reception, Year One and Year Two entertained audiences with their lively and colourful musical production of “Blooming Gorgeous”, by Debbie Campbell.

The story is set within a stone’s throw of the River Thames and Big Ben in the garden of Thomas Fairchild, a renowned 18th Century horticulturalist.

The ‘ragamuffins’ were treated to a journey around Thomas’ garden from the compost heap with ‘rocking’ Decomposers to the vegetable patch with funky ‘Tough Potatoes’, into the hothouse to meet the exotic flowers. Out in the flowerbed romance was in the air and finally, they walked to the apple orchard.

The characters sang, danced and told the story with confidence and enthusiasm, which combined to make a truly memorable production!

Pre-Prep Performing Arts staff which consists of Sarah Goodfellow – director, Liz Nayler – Musical Director and Felicity Patch – Choreographer were delighted to receive assistance with costumes and make-up from the ‘Theatre Production Team’ – a group of senior pupils from Years 7 – 11 who meet each week and make valuable contributions towards all Ballard School productions. Theatre Production is an extra-curricular activity offered at the school and is one that is going from strength to strength under the leadership of Rachel Spackman the Performing Arts Centre Manager.

If anyone missed seeing this wonderful Pre-Prep show they will have the opportunity to see it during Ballard School’s ‘Open Morning’ on Saturday 25th June between 10 and 12 noon.
