MP to give Ballard School governmental insight on pensions

May 27, 2011

As our half term break looms, we are hosting a visit from ourlocal MP, Desmond Swayne. Mr Swayne, a Conservative MP for the constituency of New Forest West, who will meet staff at the school on Friday, 27th May at 5pm.

Mr Swayne, whose own children once attended Ballard, consequently has a solid connection with the school. Top of the meeting’s agenda is to discuss the pensions for teaching staff in light of the Government’s proposed changes to the Teachers’ Pension Scheme, which have excited significant concerns across UK schools. The teachers will be able to collectively lobby their MP and gain some insight about the impact of new plans and policies.

School Headmaster, Alastair Reid, is looking forward to the visit. He said: “We look forward to welcoming Mr Swayne to our school. It is always a pleasure to gain an introspective from our local governance and we look forward to hearing more about the government’s plans for the future. Mr Swayne works closely with David Cameron and will be able to give us an insight into their ideas and decisions which affect us directly. Moreover, having been an exact contemporary of Mr. Swayne at Prep School in Scotland, it will be a delight to renew our acquaintance!”

The meeting is likely to take place in the school’s Chapel, which is fitting given that Ballard School’s ideals are centred upon strong Christian values.
