Headmaster’s Blog – Monday 27 June

MA in Fosbury mode

Open Day and Sports’ Day were a huge success again this year. On Saturday we had the combined events at Ballard as usual. We had planned to hold the athletics at Kings Park in Bournemouth but, owing to a huge Convention at the neighbouring football stadium we decided to switch things back to School. Whilst it meant
not having access to a tartan track and the facilities of a top ground, the ‘silver lining’ was more than evident with a lovely family occasion at School and a very high quality inter-House event. Several records were broken and two of our English Schools’ high jumpers were on display. One high-jump record which had stood since 1981 fell! The day also included a turf-cutting ceremony to mark the start of the Astro Turf project. A short speech focused on our gratitude to Governors, parents, staff and pupils for the resources, land and vision we have had for this long-standing project. Turf was cut by three pupils from the Pre-Prep, the Prep and the Senior sections of the School and prayers
of thanks and for safety in construction and use were offered. A very happy day was summarized by one parent who commented: ‘What a wonderful, family, occasion which was inclusive for parents and pupils alike.’
