Mr Bellars from Ballard at the Paralympics (2)

Yesterday was a very exciting day for me! More than half-way through the Paralympics, and medalists are starting to come by the zone where I work more and more often. In one 5 minute period yesterday, I met Kerry Morgan, an American who won Bronze in the Women’s T52 200m, then there was a real highlight: Richard Whitehead, whose extraordinary performance in the Men’s T42 200m left us all awestruck on Monday, when he came from 7th place on the bend to win by well over a second in a new World Record time, finishing with a bicep-bulging salute to the crowd! Incredibly, he now holds World Records for both the 200m and the Marathon! Anyway – he popped into the Village Post Office, which is opposite where I work – and so I grabbed the opportunity for a quick photo with him! (Unfortunately he had left his medal in his room – he said it was really heavy to transport around all the time – but I didn’t dare call him a wimp!)

The buzz in the Village is getting better and better each day. All the countries have pictures of their own medal-winners in the ground-floor windows of their offices, and you can really tell that the performances of their team-mates is just spurring them on to greater efforts themselves.

I am going to be really sad when this is all over!
