Battlefields Day 1

September 18, 2014

Hooge CraterAll arrived on time for a prompt departure at 7.15am, with our driver Ryan. A fleeting stop at Fleet to pick up our new driver David.

First stop on the continent was the Hooge Crater cemetery. This immediately brought home to everyone the reason for our trip. This cemetery of over 5000 soldiers was particularly poignant for some – Max’s great grandfather had fought and was injured there, and another group member found the grave of their great uncle.

We then headed to our hotel for some welcome refreshment followed by some football and bowling. a great start to the trip.

I am so glad that you managed to see where my grandfather fought. What a terrible experience it must have been for those brave young men. Enjoy the rest of your trip , and see you on Sunday. Mum/Meganx
