Day 4 of Florence Art Trip

October 25, 2015

A leisurely start to the day drawing IMG_1145from the top balcony over the Florence skyline.

At noon we made our way to the Uffizi Gallery, IMG_1146but as there are 45 rooms of paintings, in order to avoid Gallery fatigue, we purposely chose our route to peruse Caravaggio, Botticelli and Michelangelo’s early paintings only. Much discussion was had about the style and content of the paintings. IMG_1155After a couple of hours at the Uffizi we made our way to their roof top café for a well earned refreshment.

From the Uffizi we walked to the Ponte Vecchio Bridge, which is quite spectacular, similar to the Rialto bridge in Venice in that it has shops and houses IMG_1158built completely across it, painted in typical Tuscany colours, of yellow ochres through to warm autumnal oranges. This was just a deliberate way point as we were en route to the Boboli Gardens. These were grand but not as beautiful as hoped and none of the many ornate fountains were working, but, none the less it served as a good late lunch stop with some where peaceful time to draw.  However, there was divided opinion on cold omelette paninis!

It was a weary but cheerful group that made their way back to the hotel. All of a sudden tomorrow is the last day, how quickly has it gone by!
