Sports’ Report #2 – 2nd December 2015 – Ballard School

December 2, 2015

In this week’s Sports’ Report blog we focus on rugby, hockey and volleyball; played by those of all ages and stages – part of our “Ballard family”.

In rugby news, our U16A side played host to Clayesmore School. With two wins and three losses for the opposition prior to this game, our unbeaten team produced an excellent game for all those watching on the sidelines.

Our match reporter succinctly writes as follows:

A really competitive game played with great spirit by both teams. An early try from Clayesmore provided some concern for Mr Marshall. However, the boys bounced back with determination and improved line speed in defense. The work on “bible skills” proved beneficial as the backs provided space for David L to score in the corner…unfortunately he dropped the ball! Liam W then missed a penalty kick at goal…was it going to be one of those days?

Well..what a game with real ebb and flow. The Ballard line out and scrum were solid and together with good rucks scrum half, Sam W, was provided with lots of good ball. Ballard scored three tries through Nathaniel G, Wiggy W and Tommy T to take a 17-10 lead. Clayesmore then scored a late try but missed the conversion….a nail biting finish at 17-15.

Well done boys.

Our girl’s hockey teams also produced wins, here the tweet highlights the U9A team’s win over local school Walhampton.

Community Corner

Ballard School is the home of New Forest volleyball and among this community outreach offer, we love to encourage adults back into sport. Another example of this is our parents’ hockey team. They meet every Saturday at 930am for drills, practice and have matches against other clubs and parent teams.

This week we tweeted about out Wednesday night volleyball practice.

Our Gifted and Talented Day for local schools was widely tweeted about on Wednesday 25th November. Part of the day brought all the school groups together for a teamwork session. Volleyball was the game and the slot before lunchtime allowed the school’s time to learn basic rules and demonstrate their skills of listening and coordination. Here are two snaps from the day.

It’s all in the game

This Saturday (28th November) our international standard astro-turf was in action with our annual Parent / Staff / Student / Alumni hockey tournament.

This was our fourth year of playing – a celebration of the opening of the Astro in 2011 – with the Alumni winners in 2012 and then the Staff in 2013 and 2014. This year the staff, bruised and battered from a very busy final few weeks of term, joined forces with the pupils to be ‘the School’. It was once again played in brilliant sunshine and cold, crisp, conditions with a partisan crowd enjoying the ‘dives’, jinks and silky skills. Thank you to all who played and those behind the scenes to made it all possible.
