Sports’ Report #3 – Tuesday 8th December 2015 – Ballard School

December 8, 2015

Cross Country

‘Tis the season…to be running, as cross country becomes the focus of PE sessions and school meets.

Seventeen pupils set off to Gang Warily in Blackfield for the annual New Forest Cross-Country Championships. The top eight finishers in each category were guaranteed a place in the County Champs in Aldershot.

Ballard finished with two of our girls qualifying for the next round, in an impressive 3rd and 4th in their respective divisions.

Celebrating achievement at Ballard School – Cross country style

This picture above is described by a member of our PE department:

These guys have just completed an intense interval training lesson! The division game allows pupils to gain promotion or become relegated depending on their finish placing. A great way to motivate every pupil to reach their targets! A brilliant lesson for these aspiring athletes!

Continuing on our cross country theme, Ballard took part in the annual Santa Dash in Lymington on Sunday 6 December, run by Oakhaven Hospice Trust.  We had a total of 93 parents, pupils, alumni and staff involved and running with a further 1407 Santas!

As the largest group in the run we were invited to start the race.

We hope to raise approximately £1000.00 for Oakhaven. Well done to all our runners- we had 6 who all came in the top 20 runners to finish!

Healthy Schools Award

Our ISA award for ‘Healthy Eating School of the Year’ was featured in The Bournemouth Echo on Monday 7th December.  Our headmaster, Alastair Reid, said:

“It’s fantastic that all the effort we have put into improving the health and wellbeing of our students has been recognised. Most important to us is that our students continue to learn more about food and how to stay fit and healthy. We will continue with our efforts to keep Ballard at the forefront of healthy eating schools in the UK.”
