ThrowbackThursday – part 2

Every week we post about #TBT or #ThrowbackThursdays on Facebook (click here) and also on Twitter.

Since our last blog in December 2015 we have looked at:

  • The Ubsdell family
  • The Duke of Connaught’s visit in 1935
  • The recent edition of our astro-turf
  • The current Pre-Prep building and its previous uses
  • The chapel

Here below are the embedded links to our Facebook posts and some pictures, so sit back, have a hot cup of cocoa and reminisce about Ballard School’s past.

31st December – The Duke of Connaugh’s visit in 1935

A commemorative stone balustrade commemorates the visit of the Duke of Connaught and Stathearn in April 1935 to Great Ballard some 80 years ago. A tree, still positioned next to the Conservatory, was planted to mark his visit. The Duke (1850-1942) was the last surviving son of Queen Victoria. He had a distinguished military career and was Governor General of Canada (1911-16) when the First World War broke out. His visit to the School would have been an extremely special occasion and a great honour.
