Sports’ Report #6- Tuesday 26th January 2016 – Ballard School

January 26, 2016

The Ballard Way.

In this our third Sports’ Report this term we look in more depth at ‘The Ballard Way’.

The PE department at Ballard have been developing a philosophy for all Sport at Ballard. The common themes are being taught across all sports. The aim is to develop the way pupils approach their sport called the Ballard Code. Within this there are also codes for parents, spectators and also the selection of Captains and advice on their roles and responsibilities.

The policy for selection of captains has been agreed with the Sports Elite council that opted for the teacher in charge of the team to nominate the captain. This can only be for one sport per year and also the opportunity for vice-captain.

The three ‘Ballard Ways’

The three identified ‘Ballard Ways’ to develop performance at Ballard are:

1) Develop a Growth Mindset (be willing to develop and learn)

2) Increase movement off the ball. (positive and unselfish movement

3) Develop spatial awareness

All three areas are key and we see these as the best ways that a pupil at Ballard (no matter their ability) can improve the way they perform. By adopting these “ways” pupils are being asked to apply skills that are taught into any sport as transferable skills.

Transferable skills

Transferable skills in sport are essential to master and when focused on, they can have a really big impact. Of course our aims are to compete against our rivals but also to develop the style of play that Ballard Sport play.

More about this at the Ballard Sport PE forum on Tuesday 9th February at 4pm.

2016.1.20 U16 hockey team

In the news this week…

We had two swimmers competing in the ISA Sport National Swimming Gala representing London West region. Here below is a tweet from some of the action on the day.

This weekend was also a sporting success for our Cross Country competitors who were running in the Hampshire Championships. Both pupils ran extremely well – more on their achievements on our Twitter channels.

Our first U16 boys hockey game of the season ‘pushed back’ the opposition to a 3-0 win on home (astro) turf. Our tweet below shows the team photo.

We also had our netball girls in action in a tournament, hosted by Bryanston School. With the wonders of technology we could follow ‘live’ as the results came in over the internet.  Our U11s did us proud, sharing the ‘glass’ prize at the end of the tournament.

We tweet regularly from our Twitter handle – @BallardSport and have a Tuesday slot on the blog!
