“A working holiday” – Insight into life at Ballard School in the holidays – March 2016

March 29, 2016

A working holiday

While our Ballard School Junior and Senior Ski Trips are away, the Bank Holiday Easter weekend and #StormKatie have come and gone (not leaving too much destruction behind them, we hope) our support staff are back into work on a very sunny Tuesday morning.

In order to support our Ballard School aims (for more do see Our ethos page) some of our staff are back into work today and we wanted to feature and thank them for their contribution to the life at this ‘through school’ from nursery to GCSE.

To help each individual pupil reach their potential within a secure, caring community and to equip our young people with the skills they will need to move into our ever-changing, modern society. – one of Ballard School’s aims

From the ground, up!

This week part of our grounds and maintenance team’s duties involve our beds outside our Performing Arts Centre- PAC. This is one of the first areas our visitors see as they enter our campus. Talking with these devoted staff they speak passionately about providing the best welcome to all who come to Ballard, and the grounds are some of the best places to show this care. So, it’s out with the old and in with some new plants. Keep an eye out for what is being planted.

We’re seeing (more) clearly in Music

In with the new windows for our Music School

One of the areas of our school in constant use is our Music School. We had a memorable Variety Show at the end of the Spring Term with a whole host of performance items, including musical ensembles. This holiday we are replacing their windows – come and see for yourself next term ! Also come to their informal concerts, usually on a Friday lunchtime. For more details do visit our Calendar section on our website.

The head’s work is never done

Along from our admin and bursar’s office is the headmaster’s office and outside you can’t help but admire the work of our Art Department. We have featured the Year 5 Kings and Queens in this blog and we have our ‘Artistic Impression’ blog most week in the term time.

Today we find the Headmaster re-ordering his notice board where news articles and press cuttings about current pupils, staff achievements (such as our recent finalist for the Daily Echo School Awards) and recent Alumni updates. They say a head’s work is never done…

‘Keeping up appearances’

Our school is in constant use and our main staircase is having the termly touch-up and paint job to help keep this very well used thoroughfare looking its best.

Easter Camps and more

The office staff are no exception and with our Easter Camps only days away (4-8th April) there is much to be done to arrange and finalise numbers. Here is our Head’s PA checking on our dedicated website for all our school holiday camps.

And as for the marketing department?

A snapshot in the ‘The life of the marketing team’ is our final photo – as the holidays can provide the perfect opportunity to work on our strategy, plan for the next term’s publications and update our social media channels. Much is made of our Facebook pages for both the school and our Alumni, Twitter handles and LinkedIn company page. We have recently added a LinkedIn ‘university’ page (for our Senior School – where Alumni can link with us and recieve news and updates) and our YouTube channel has featured videos and montages of our school film.
