Sports’ Report #16 – Tuesday 14th June 2016 – Ballard School

June 14, 2016

Sports’ Report – 14th June 2016

We bring you more on our Athletics season to this week’s Sports’ Report. We have features on our PE Barbecue, Volleyball, Tchoukball as well as a Parent vs Staff Netball game!

Athletics

Ballard School traveled to the Thames Valley Athletics Centre which stands proudly next to Eton College. Ballard took a full squad for the first time ever and finished 5th overall. The boys team were placed 4th and the girls were 6th.

This is a huge achievement for the school and gives Ballard a benchmark to try and improve upon in the next three years. All pupils performed magnificently and everyone obtained points for the team.

Ballard had four qualifiers for the Nationals in Birmingham on Wednesday 29th June 2016. (Parents – full details will be in the weekly Bulletin)

Our qualifiers were in the

Year 5 Boys 150m race

Year 6  Boys Shot

Year 7 Girls 100m

Year 11 Girls 800m

Ballard truly represented with spirit and unity. Our pupils supported each other and the older pupils again led the younger athletes to their events as well as being terrific role models.

We wish our four athletes the very best of luck in the Nationals!

The full placings and times will be displayed on the Ballard Sports Portal in the match report section.

PE BBQ

We held our annual PE Barbecue on Friday 10th June which, as well as the food, included a time for staff, pupils and parents to play a variety of sports including rounders, netball, croquet, cricket and volleyball. Do see our Ballard School Twitter feed for the tweets from the day.

The Parents Netball practice on Saturdays brought a strong team out for the Staff vs Parents game. The parents’ team came back from 0-3 vs the staff at half-time to 3-5 at the close!

Here we have a half time picture of the staff team – enjoying their oranges!

Volleyball

Plans are being finalised for the New Forest Junior Volleyball Workshop on Monday 27th June for Years 3-6 from 2-4pm at Ballard School. We have about 30 pupils coming from a range of Junior Schools with more to be signed up soon. This will be held whatever the British Weather…Outdoors if dry and indoors if wet!

Tchoukball

On Wednesday mornings, between 7.30am and 8.15am we hold our Tchoukball breakfast club.  This is open to pupils from Year 5-10. The pupils attending the club (12 regulars) have improved massively since the introduction of this sport. Director of Sport, Justin Whitbread comments that they are playing the “3D Ballard way”.

What does that mean? It means they are demonstrating movement skills and off the ball running. Their catching skills are unbelievable now and this looks promising for the Netball, Rugby and Multi-sports seasons.

Our Ballard Summer Camps programme includes Netball, Rugby and Multi-Sports. There is something for everyone, so do sign up today! Links can be found from our Ballard School website, or from clicking on the link above.
