Sports’ Report #17 – Tuesday 28th June 2016

June 28, 2016
Ballard School Sports Day Tug of War

Sports’ Day Report

Year 6-8 completed their sports days in fabulous weather. All pupils took part in at least one field event (High Jump, Long Jump, Javelin, Discus, Shot or ball throw) and also running events of middle distance.

On Sports Afternoon pupils were able to sprint and also take part in Tug of War against the other houses. The afternoon finished with relay races for all. These included the 4 x75m, the Olympic Relay (600m, 300m, 200m, 100m) and then the whole team Fun baton rely, where every house had to get around the baton around the track, as fast as they could.

Unfortunately the Yr9,10 Sports Afternoon has been washed out twice, however we have a last chance on Tuesday 5th July – 11-1245 for Yr10 and 2:15 -4pm for Yr9.

Thank you all – Mr Whitbread

Some Sports Day ‘thank yous’ from Mr Freeman

The sports days would not have been possible without the help of so many different people, and just in case I forget anyone I would like to say a massive thank you.

  • Special thanks to the PE dept who helped out with so many different things and running events and organising the different areas.
  • Thanks to the catering dept. who provided drinks, snacks and parents teas and coffees and cakes throughout the day.
  • Thanks to the site staff for helping to set up and prepare and then pack down everything afterwards.
  • A huge thanks to all of the year 3-5 teachers and tutors, and all of the Pre-Prep staff and teachers who came out to help with their pupils, and for making sure they were in the right place at the right time.
  • It was brilliant to have a number of sports elite pupils helping out throughout the day, they did a wonderful job and highlight how fantastic the pupils are that we have at Ballard.
  • A big thanks to all of the other teachers who allowed the sports elite pupils to come out and help.
  • We had a number of alumni pupils who came and helped out today, great to see some faces from the past back at Ballard, and still enjoying helping out the Ballard family.
  • Thanks to Mr Reid for helping to present medals and certificates at both sports days, a big help!

Rowing

We have been running an Introduction to Rowing in our fitness suite for Year 9’s.

Swimming

Our under 11 Girls were champions at the  Canford Swimmimg Gala Champions 2016

The under 11s boys and girls traveled to Canford School on Tuesday 14th June to compete against 4 other top Prep schools from around the South. Canford’s 25m pool welcomed Yarrells, Dumpton, Twyford, Walhampton and Ballard. The boys battled hard and finished a worthy 4th. They were 4th in both relays and did themselves proud.

The girls had a strong team of 5 and they shared the events around. There were high finishes for those outside the 2 ranked swimmers out of 10. We had second place finishers in 50m back stroke and 50m breast stroke. We had winners in the 25m butterfly and the four length (200m) individual medley. The last two events were the relays and the Ballard girls steamrollered the field with a spectacular medley relay. The gold was then mirrored in the freestyle relay.

The girls were elated and this success is years of dedication and hard graft by the girls. These girls have trained and practiced for hours in the Ballard pool and some at clubs.

Volleyball

We hosted a volleyball workshop with four local primary schools recently.
