Girls’ Sport at Ballard School

Girls’ sport is thriving at Ballard.

Our Director of Sport, Justin Whitbread, provides our blog with some headlines around girls sport at Ballard.

  • Our U11 and U10 Hockey teams are unbeaten with the U10s also winning the recent Ballard Tournament

  • We are getting more and more commitment to our clubs at school including attendance to Breakfast clubs. One example of this is with Girls’ Football. This is building in numbers on a Monday and Friday after school with Miss Holliaok and Emily Gard, as is the Junior Netball. On Thursdays over 20 Senior girls attend breakfast club at 7:30 am.
  • We are building a reputation not only the  traditional sports but also the new sports to Ballard. Last Summer our girls gained Silver in the Hampshire and IoW game in Volleyball, and we had one student playing for England over the summer.

Our school squad competes in National Schools’ Equestiran Association (NSEA) competitions and two of our members have been national champions. We also have representation in International Skiing and Gymnastics.
  • Our Gymnastics strategy is searching for the next star in Pre – Prep Gymnastics on a Friday during activity time.

PE Department focus on Girls’ Sport

We have a strong PE department with Miss Benson developing the Junior girls, myself and Mr Bellars and Mr Clark in girls Hockey as well as Mr Ridley and Mrs Marshall at the Senior end.

We encourage all girls to lead a Healthy and Active lifestyle in U16 PE with mixed Netball, Hockey and Volleyball being promoted. In addition some girls are Swimming this term in the breakfast club on a Wednesday, the Ballard U12 swimming Academy and also leisure swimming in Yr11.
