Continuing on in style with ‘The Ballard Way’

In this week’s Ballard Sports’ Report: success for our girls’ Hockey, more detail on our Swimming Strategy, including our U13 academy. Our Inter-House competition continues with our Football and Hockey tournaments and we list the many community sport opportunities on offer.

Jersey Sport

Ballard Sport welcomed St Michael’s Preparatory School, Jersey last Friday. Two games were played at U13 level in both Football for boys and Hockey for girls. Both games were played in excellent spirit and the Annual Touring team from Jersey were tough opponents.
The football went down to a 1-0 win for the Jersey school. The closely fought game encapsulated “The Ballard Way” in team work and effort. The visitors scored with their only shot in target, where as the Ballard team were denied by some excellent goalkeeping.

Ballard hosted the touring side from St Michael’s Preparatory School in Jersey. They played an U13 Football game.

The Girls’ result reversed the Football score, with Ballard emerging as 1-0 winners. Again a strong  squad from Ballard met tough opposition. The training that the girls have partaken in really paid off. Excellent team play resulted in the only goal, with a tough defence and goalkeeper keeping St Michael’s out.
Ballard School Jersey Hockey

Ballard welcomed the touring side from St Michael’s Preparatory School in Jersey. They played U13 Hockey.

Swimming strategy

Following our Swimming Galas we have put in a swimming strategy to develop swimming at Ballard School. (For current parents  –  please contact the PE department if you have not seen the swimming strategy – Ed.)

We have introduced a breakfast club between September – October and this will re-start in April 2017. There is the chance to develop Land Based Fitness in the winter and spring at 7:30 – 8:15 on a Wednesday. We have also introduced the U13 Swimming Academy in lessons this term and have clinics for less strong swimmers in the summer.

Pupils have already competed in an event at Godolphin (Salisbury) this term and we have a strong squad attending the London West Independent Schools Association (ISA) Championships in November.

Inter-House sport

This Wednesday from 1.45pm to 4.15pm we have our Inter-House Festivals for Years 3&4, 5&6 and 7&8. Our boys will play in the  Inter-House Football Festival and our girls will compete in their Inter-House Hockey Festival. There will also be a Hockey workshop on our Basketball court with stick control skills and penalty shooting practice. Match teas will be available for Parents in the Chapel. We look forward to welcoming you to our Festivals.

Community Sport at Ballard

Our Community Sport programme is extremely well attended. On Monday we have our Netball club, aimed at U10-U12 girls.Tuesdays are reserved for Basketball; with over twenty competitors attending on a regular basis. They range from current pupils, Alumni and parents as well as local players.

Futsal is a thriving new initiative on Wednesdays and is led by New Forest Soccer. Boys and girls will need to attend New Forest Soccer Academy sessions to be considered for the Futsal project. You can access this on www.newforestsoccer.co.uk. Thursdays is Volleyball night where people of any age can come and learn the key skills required for a perfect ‘dig’ or ‘volley’; all played in a games based environment. ‘Soccer Saturdays’ round off our programme – again, led by New Forest Soccer.  Do click on the link for more information.
