Ballard School rugby match sport

A massive week for Ballard Sport this week…

On Wednesday, we have our normal Rugby games, a Tag Rugby Workshop for Years 3-6, a Squash Workshop for some U13s and also our first Girls U13 Football fixture v Priestlands – we are fielding two teams!

We have U11 and U13 Girls travelling to Lee Valley in the Olympic Park on Thursday to compete in the ISA Hockey Championships. This is a 6am leave from New Milton…

Also on Thursday we send our largest ever Cross Country team (drawn from Year 7-11) to Gang Warily near Fawley for the New Forest Championships.

On Friday we have a minibus of Swimmers attending the iSA Regionals for Swimming at Aldershot, again another 6am depart.

Also in the afternoon we have our first Girls U11-U10 Football fixtures of the winter season.

Our Director of Sport commented that : “The commitment, passion and team work were outstanding. The Ballard Way was evident and less experienced players, even a few making their school debut, really played well”. More photos on our Sports’ Report Flickr album.

Winter season sports

Tag Rugby and Girls Football

As already mentioned, we are working on a winter season to encourage mixed Tag Rugby in Years 3-6 and also Girls Football. These are important sports for us to adopt as the skills learnt here will transfer into the Netball season and also may unearth a special talent or enthuse a girl to pick up a sport they may never have done.

There are various opportunities on the horizon for both sports including our very own U11 Tag Rugby Festival in March, not to mention the end of term Inter – Tag mixed Rugby for Years 3-6 on the 14th December.

Thank you to FOBS

It is a very opportune moment to also thank Friends of Ballard School (FOBS) and also the school governors for the financial support they have shown towards getting an extra set of temporary floodlights. We now have four  that provide light for the whole of the Astro turf pitch. This is especially appreciated during these winter nights to allow us to keep all activities going during the winter. Another super benefit of these temporary lights is that they reduce the impact on the use of the Sports Hall and allows indoors sports such as Volleyball and Gymnastics to continue.

Have a great sports week!
