The best swimming result for 8 years!

Ballard School joined around 20 other schools within the London West areas for the ISA regional swimming championships in Aldershot. The prize for the winning individuals would be a place in the London West team that would compete in the Nationals on Saturday 21st January in the Olympic Aquatics Centre!

Ballard took 15 hopefuls from across the school from Year 4 to Year 11. We had one girl qualify for the London West team in two events with gold in the Year 7 girls freestyle and butterfly. Her winning margin was significant and will hold her in good stead for the Nationals.

There were a number of Ballard pupils who will now wait to see if they are called up as a reserve or as a member of the relay team. Ballard pupils achieved 5 Silvers across various disciplines – we will now wait to see if any of Ballard’s silver medalists are shortlisted for a reserve or relay place. The senior girls team finished 3rd overall which is a magnificent achievement.

This was the best result for Ballard since entering around 8 years ago and the standard is the highest in the country.   London West have won the ISA Nationals three years in a row so our pupils should be extremely proud of their achievements!

Non-traditional sports develop at Ballard

Ballard Sport is developing a reputation for not only the traditional sports of hockey and netball but also girls’ football.

Traditional sports, such as hockey, have see recent success in the girls U11 ISA competition and there has been success from the U8’s – U16s with the later winning the Hampshire Trophy.

On Wednesday  two minibuses  (32 girls) took on Priestlands in a fantastic afternoon of girls’ football.

On Friday we welcomed The Park School, supplying an A, B & C team, to compete in a friendly festival. New Forest Soccer were scouting and some girls were invited to trials for the newly formed Girls New Forest Soccer Team.

We have girls training on a Monday at 7:30 in the morning and also Fridays during activity time.

It’s tag rugby time

Last week also saw the launch of the new tag rugby initiative for girls and boys during the period of November – January. We traditionally host the New Forest Schools event, however the initiative has integrated mixed tag rugby into our provision. We have events planned for Dec 14th v Brockenhurst Junior and also on  January 27th v The Park. For more details, please see www.ballardsport.co.uk .

Girls rugby is going to start as a contact club after Christmas in addition to the tag rugby breakfast club on Thursdays.

Cross Country Fitness Challenge Fortnight

This week and next week is Cross Country week for  Years 3-8. It is a time to really show a positive approach to the fitness unit they have studied. The training courses are suited towards the groups they have trained in. Some are in the ‘Ballard Bumble’ group, others in the Premier League, however the key to the programme is to challenge themselves and teach a target having used the training methods they have been taught.

My advice: please encourage your child to give it their best; the feeling of achievement is terrific after meeting their targets. No letters of excuse please  (unless genuine injury). Take on the challenge! Give it a go! #theballardway!

Thank you

Celebrating achievement at Ballard School – Cross country style

Across country  – including a pond, golf course and a football ground!

The Ballard cross-country team had a terrific afternoon at Gang Warily near Blackfield. Year 7-11 boys and girls represented the school on a challenging course around a pond, golf course and a football ground.

We had New Forest team qualifiers in the Year 8-9 boys and girls’ races and a hopeful (due to past races) qualifier in the year 10 girls’ section. We also have a reserve for the Year 7 girls’ regional team. Many congratulations to all who raced and took part.

Annual Hockey Tournament

Our annual hockey tournament was held on Saturday 26th November. Matches were played as full 11-a-side games with teams from the school, Alumni and parents.

Headmaster Alastair Reid said:

Many thanks to the parents who came to help and to play in our annual in-school 11-a-side hockey tournament. It was super to see so many Alumni back visiting their alma mater – and they carried off the trophy after three excellent matches.
