Day 6 – Ballard India tour

Day 6

Another lie in!

Vikram, our guide, organised the alarm call for a late 06:30. After breakfast we drove back into Jaipur old city to a jewellery market. We watched the jewels being polished and cut (Emeralds, sapphires, rubies amongst them). The group turned out to be shoppers at this point and spent an hour browsing and enjoying the multitude of choices.

Exploring Pushkar

Lunch at the Jagat hotel in Pushka

Once again, we boarded the coach for a four hour drive to Pushkar. Pushkar is one of the few holy cities in India, in this case a revered Hindu town because of its lake. By law, spanning out from the town for 5 kilometres, no alcohol or meat is available or drunk and eaten in public. The hotel, Jagart Palace, is simply stunning. Jagart Palace is indeed a palace, with every wall, ceiling and pillar carved and painted in intricate detail and bright colours and gold leaf. Most of the group took the opportunity to ‘brave’ the pool in the afternoon sun….
